Information For Solicitors

Barristers who have Direct Public Access are authorised by the Bar Council to deal directly with the public for selected activities.

Of course, I also take instructions from, and work with, solicitors as well. Call me on 07983 565690.

Either way, I work across business and commercial law, criminal law, employment and education law, criminal and family law, property and land matters, and regulatory and disciplinary law.

I market my services at you and at the wider public whom we both serve. So I am a referral resource for you but expect to have a number of potential clients approach me directly via marketing activity.

I believe the model works well because there is a strong potential for reciprocity in my relationship with solicitors.

Not every client who approaches me can be helped on a direct access basis: crime, immigration and family law all presently have some constraints on what can and can't be provided by Counsel.

Any cases which are likely to involve factual disputes and the obtaining of contentious witness evidence where the courtroom looms are not amenable to being run ab initio by counsel.

On the other hand regulatory and tribunal work is perfectly good for us, as are boundary disputes etc.

Litigation is not a function barristers can perform as yet. We can't issue proceedings, take witness statements in criminal matters, write letters in an endeavour to settle or negotiate, and so on.

But plainly I can and do market myself at the public and business. I generate 'leads' to put it crudely which, in the event I cannot progress them myself for the reasons set out above, have to be referred on to a solicitor.

That solicitor may or may not decide to use me when the appropriate moment arrives e.g. to brief Counsel on the trial, draft pleadings, attend interim hearings, in the usual way, while the litigation functions remain with the solicitor.

Of course that decision is always based on choosing counsel appropriate to the case.

I am casting the marketing net in London and on the Midland Circuit and so I am interested in receiving instructions from those areas.

If we can strike up a relationship it may well be to our mutual benefit. Call Gerard Quirke on 07983 565690.

Meanwhile I am also Counsel in Birmingham's Citadel Chambers looking for instructions from solicitors on the usual basis i.e. ability and experience.

I can provide specialist legal services in crime and quasi-crime, business and commercial law, property law, local authority law and judicial review, disciplinary and regulatory work, licensing and a number of other areas ancillary to business and commercial activity.

I also undertake privately and publicly-funded work in a range of areas and welcome barrister with solicitor advocacy teams.
